Pet Food Recall

As many of you are aware, there has been a lot of attention towards our pets food recently.  The recall of over 90 brands of cat and dog food has created a lot of anxiety.  More information can be found at the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and FDA  websites .

1. As of April 2006 we will no longer be allowed to sign a prescription that is faxed or mailed to our office.  The New York State Dept. of Health is mandating that ALL prescriptions written in NY must be on official prescription pads, which can not be faxed or copied.  Please call or stop in for all your prescription needs.

2. Avian Influenza-  On the heels of a story out of Germany at the beginning of March 2006, concern is mounting about avian influenza spreading to cats.  For continuously updated information on avian influenza, see: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/ and http://www.aphis.usda.gov/lpa/issues/avian_influenza/index.html

3. Canine Influenza- This viral disease is still around, although the incidence of disease has decreased recently.  This is a relatively new disease in this area, and more and more is being discovered about it all the time.  A lot of research is being done at Cornell, and we will provide updates as indicated.  You can visit the Cornell website at http://www.vet.cornell.edu
